Mojang accounts are the next step in Minecraft accounts, and your single sign-in resource for all Mojang games. If you currently log into Minecraft with your username, you can migrate your game to a Mojang account at account.mojang.com/migrate. If you log in with your email address, you already have a Mojang account, and do not need to migrate.
What are the benefits of migrating a Minecraft account to a Mojang account?
It's harder for a malicious user to gain access to an account. With a Minecraft account, half of the login information is publicly known: the username. With a Mojang account, you can use a private email address as your username for all Mojang services. Additionally, Mojang accounts were built to log more information than Minecraft accounts. This means that if anything at all changes on the account, we know how and when it occurred.
You can set security questions. Using a Mojang account, you can set security questions in case you forget your password or need to regain access to your account. If you set these to something that no one else knows, your account is further protected.
All of your Mojang games in one place. Whether you're playing Minecraft, Scrolls, Cobalt or any future games, you can view and re-download any of your games from account.mojang.com, and use a single sign in for any games connected to that account.
Use your Minecraft username in other Mojang games. Players who have migrated their Minecraft account to a Mojang account will be able to select that same username in other Mojang games, if they choose to do so. This also prevents someone else from using your registered username in another Mojang game. So if you see Notch playing a game of Scrolls, it's the real deal!
What changes if I migrate to a Mojang account?
If you migrate a Minecraft account to a Mojang account, you'll now use your email as a username to sign into all Mojang services, including Minecraft, Minecraft.net, Mojang.com and more.
What if I don't migrate?
A username can only exist once within the Mojang account system. This means that if you have a Minecraft account that has not been migrated, and someone selects that same username in Scrolls or another Mojang game, you will be unable to migrate your account in the future, or use that username in other Mojang games. If you'd like to secure that username in Mojang games, it's recommended that you migrate to a Mojang account.
I already log in with my email address, but haven't migrated. What's that about?
All new games purchased through Mojang currently use the new accounts system. These accounts are automatically Mojang accounts, so you won't need to migrate.
If you'd like to migrate, and your Minecraft email address is invalid or no longer accessible, you may need to contact customer support. Please visit our article on account migration issues for more information.
