Minecraft download stops

Sometimes when you're trying to download the game, the download may stop before it is completed, or you may receive an error message at the end of your download.

Description: When downloading Minecraft: Java Edition for the first time, the download stops. This is usually the result of a firewall or antivirus blocking the file transfer.

Solution: If you have an antivirus or firewall enabled, you may wish to temporarily disable them, try the download again, and re-enable them afterward.

If you are a Mac user, this issue can be caused by applications from other sources not being allowed. Make sure to allow applications to be downloaded from anywhere from your System Preferences.

You may need to be sure that you're on the administrator account on your computer, as not doing so will sometimes prevent the game from downloading.

If you're still experiencing issues after trying the above, you may want to try one of our alternative downloads here

Description: When downloading the latest version of Minecraft: Java Edition, it still only shows older versions.

Solution: Make sure that your launcher is set to use the latest version. You can do this by going to "Launch options" in the launcher, clicking the launch option you are using, and checking that "Version" option is set to use the latest release. You will then need to change the version in the drop-down menu to the right side of the play button.
